Given Wings, the non-profit arm of JBW Farms, started as a vision given to us in 2013. While reading through a book called Living the Dream by Daniel Floyd, we had a dream birthed in our hearts. At first, this dream was to create a place that would provide a safe-haven employment opportunity for our intellectually disabled daughter, AnneDee. But the dream grew. It grew to improve the lives of children in the foster care system, much like our two children, Chesney and SaDee, whom we adopted in 2009 and 2010.
We wanted better for our daughter AnnDee and the community of special needs children like her. At the same time, we wanted better for the thousands of children still waiting in the wings of the foster care system.
At the time, these dreams seemed insurmountable, but we pressed on in faith.
Over the years 2013 and 2014, we committed to give over 43% of our income to our local church in Fredericksburg, VA. This was not a simple task for us — Jonathan was a police officer and JoDee was a nurse — but it was what we knew we were called to do. The ensuing commitment and fulfillment of our financial pledge has since grown into an immense blessing in our lives, resulting in JBW Farms and now, thankfully, Given Wings.
We are humbled to be able to carry this dream forward. Thank you for joining us on the journey.
